After writing my first ebook I needed to design a cover for it. I have the brains and the creativity but I just needed some free advice or guidance so I went in search of free ebook cover creator software. There are a lot of free software’s that you can download but I just wanted something online that I could use and not commit to a download that could possibly contain a virus. Can you tell I have trust issues? I found some pretty awesome options that I’m going to share with you to help you cut down on your own search time for a quality ebook cover creator.

This site claims that more people use this free ebook creator than any other on the internet and I have to say that I can see why. It is super easy, convenient and already provides a ton of templates that you can use to get an idea for an ebook cover layout.

When you first visit the site you have to choose the type of cover you want to work on and then the software password is emailed to your email address so you can access it immediately. I didn’t have to wait – it was sent within seconds. This is a really smart way for them to collect email addresses for future mailings.

You can pick from a flat 2D cover or a 3D cover. They also provide a large selection of graphics and backgrounds or you have the option to upload your own image. This is by far my favorite free ebook cover designer out there.

MyEcoverMaker says it is an easy to use point-and-click online tool to create ebook covers without the need for expensive software like photoshop and plugins to create stunning 3D eCovers.

It is incredibly easy to use and does have a lot of free provided graphics, abstract images, shapes and free stock photo’s. You also have the option to upload your own image.

In order to obtain the cover without the watermark though you have to pay $4.95 a cover or subscribe to the site. Although it is an easy to use site you could just as easily go on Fiverr and pay someone $5.00 to design a cover for you and be done with it.

If you are creating multiple covers then a subscription to this site may be worth it for you to check out.

This site states that Canva’s free book cover maker is ridiculously easy to use – even for the novice or not-so-tech-savvy writer.

This site IS ridiculously easy to use and you can essentially create a quality cover for completely free. Be careful though some of the Canva Elements are considered “premium” and cost money. The prices are pretty reasonable if you really love an element they have it won’t break the bank. If you use their free elements or upload your own then you can download your cover for totally free. This is definitely among my top favorite free creators. It’s super convenient that they offer high quality free images alongside cost effective paid images.

This site says it is the easiest way to design your ebook cover. I will say that it could be the easiest but it is also the most simplistic. It offers no real extras and not a whole lot of options. If you are looking for something VERY simple with no crazy perks this is it. You can upload your own templates but they don’t offer any free images or elements. If you want to create a very simple cover for a work project this would work perfect for you. But in way of designing something up scale – this one isn’t it.

If you plan on self-publishing your ebook on Amazon then you should know you can design your ebook cover right on Amazon’s Cover Creator. It’s free and is really easy to use. It’s nice because they have a pretty good selection of images, styles and templates to choose from so you’ll get a beautiful quality cover.

My only issue with it is that someone else self-publishing on Amazon could have used those images. I just don’t know how unique they would be and I’m all about being different. Otherwise, it works great and is free so that’s the best.
